This Week in 104

Hi everyone!

This week in Room 104 we started learning about Community Helpers.

Who are they? Community Helpers are people that work in our community. They help us in different ways. Some of the people we thought of are:
*Teachers
*Principal
*Cashier
*Veterinarian
*EMS worker
*Policeman
*Secretary
*Firefighter
*Garbage collector
*Doctor

In math we have been solving problems like this:
There are 10 flowers in the garden. 6 flowers are blue. The rest are yellow. How many flowers are yellow?
First we draw 10 flowers. Then we colour 6 blue. Then we count how many flowers are yellow.
There are 4 yellow flowers.

This week's word of the week is: there. Please put your shoes over there.

Yesterday we had our Mystery Reader: Mr. Mark! Lauren's dad was here to read a Robert Munsch book.

Please note:
All students who are bringing a reading folder home. We will be collecting folders and books starting Monday June 1. Thanks so much for your cooperation!

Week of May 11 and May 19

Hello friends and family!

Last week we finished up learning about farms and farm animals. We had a blast at the farm the week before and learned a lot about different kinds of animals.

Ask your child about which one was their favourite! We learned about: pigs, goats, ponies, chickens, and sheep. Each student wrote about a farm animal of their choice.

We also focused on the word: that - That is my favourite book.

In school, we explored Canadian coins. Lots of our friends have been to the store with moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas. Most of us have seen them before. We learned about what the value of each coin is, their names and what they look like. We even got to "buy" our own things in our class groups.

We have also been learning position words. That means words that tell us where something or someone is.

Monday - we learned:
The green cube is on top. The yellow cube is in the middle and the blue cube is on the bottom.
Tuesday - we learned:  on, inside and outside
The rooster is on top. The horses are inside and the trees are outside of the barn.
Wednesday - we learned: over, under, through and around
We went on a Shark hunt. We were stopped at this big gate (there were other things we had to get through before finding our shark). We couldn't go OVER the gate, we couldn't go UNDER the gate, we couldn't go AROUND the gate. We had to go THROUGH the gate.
Thursday - we learned: behind, in front, beside

On Friday we had our mystery reader!
Surprise! It was Maria's mom. She read us a great book on pumpkin planting and Maria even helped her read it too.

For the next few weeks we will be working on our Author's day book. We are reading GROWING books. Yesterday we read: Pizza Pat.

We are continuing to work on letter sounds, putting letter sounds together to make words, numbers, addition and subtraction.

Forsythe Farms

We had a long and wonderful trip to Forsythe Farms on Wednesday, May 6.

We started our trip with a scenic drive to Uxbridge where the farm was located. When we got there, Farmer Susan greeted us with a big smile. Then we hopped onto the pumpkin tractor ride where we got a tour of the farm. We saw special fairy tale displays, fields where pumpkins, beans and corn grow, and the barn where the animals were kept. After that we learned about the hens that laid all the eggs that we buy in the store, and then got to feed goats, bunnies and sheep.

Finally...after lunch we planted strawberry plants! What trip is complete without some time at the park? We ran, slid and rode on some park equipment before journeying back to Roywood.

Our students brought the strawberry plants home for mother's day this Sunday. We hope all moms enjoyed their strawberry plants and special treat :)

Have a wonderful weekend, we hope you have a relaxing and loving weekend!
